It is located to the north of the Morrazo region and it is contiguous with Cangas, Moaña, Marín and the estuary of Aldán.
This beautiful coastal town possesses a great natural richness and also an important heritage distributed among the three primary parishes: Bueu, Beluso and Cela. In the parish of Bueu it is situated the town centre where the main services are centralized. Beluso is known for its virgin sand banks while the parish of Cela stands out for its romanesque church and the mountain called Chans, where one of the best views of the estuary may be caught.
PLACES OF INTEREST
It's difficult to choose what is the most outstanding thing in the natural environment that surrounds Bueu but certainly Udra Cape and the several paths to the mills are essential to those who visit this place.
The archaelogical heritage of Bueu is particularly rich with remains dating from the Palaeolithic period, findings from the Bronze Age and those from Roman settlements. All of them are shown in the churches, chapels, hermitages and “pazos” found in each one of the parishes. There are some places that should be highlighted as the Megalithic Burial Mounds of Castiñeíras, the mámoa do Forno das Arcas in Cela, the petroglyph of Abelaires in Bueu and the “Pazo” de Ouril in Beluso, among others.
The Massó Museum, located in the centre of the town, is worth visiting because it offers permanent exhibitions related to the sea, a very valuable bibliographical collection and a special section on navigation with nautical tools and scale models of ancient vessels.
Ons Island is part of the town council of Bueu and it's an archipelago that belongs to Atlantic Islands National Park, a true treasure both for the landscape and for the richness of its flora and fauna.
Bueu is the starting point for the sea crossing to the islands, because it offers a regular shipping service in summertime and Easter. The boat trip is an attraction itself thanks to the panoramic view over the estuaries of Pontevedra, Aldán and Arousa.
On mainland there is a wild island with beautiful beaches as Melide beach with clean and crystal clear water.
BEACHES
In the municipality you can find all sort of beaches, from the urban ones where you can have all the utilities to the wild ones, passing through some small coves spread all over the coast.
Starting with the parish of Cela, we find the beaches of Portomaior, Lagamán and Agrelo among them, each with its own unique characteristics that make them worth a visit. In the town centre it excels the beaches of Loureiro and Banda do Río, this last one next to the harbour.
In the end, among the beaches that belong to the parish of Beluso some of them stand out, that is Beluso, Lagos, Tuia, Mourisca and Area de Bón. All of them have their own features, from rivers crossing sandy spots and forest enclosing the dunes to rocky formations.
