This town is located in the southwest corner of the peninsula of Morrazo, in the very heart of Galician Rías Baixas, between the estuaries of Vigo and Pontevedra and flanked by the islands of Cies and Ons. Although it is a small municipality it has one of the largest coasts in Spain, with lots of different beaches, from the most urban as that of Rodeira to the wildest ones as those of Liméns, Barra or Melide, all of them in the parishes of the rural area.

Traditionally, Cangas is divided into five parishes: one of them is urban-that of the town itself- and the four other are rural, among them the most outstanding are O Hío and Aldán because of their beautiful shores, their large amount of beaches and monuments.

ALDÁN

t is a seafaring town, situated on a quiet and protected coast. Its promenade, which extends from the seashore of San Cibrán beach until the fishing port, is a gorgeous place to go for a walk and where the visitor can find several restaurants where freshly-caught seafood from the estuary is served. A few metres away you will find the church of San Cibrán, the Pazo da Torre, the bridge over Orxas river and the Leira do Frendoal dos Condes, where you can contemplate an astonishing mediaeval aqueduct and a small castle. Very close, following the channel of the river, it is the route of Os Muíños, that passes through a thick forest.

Among the different beaches in Aldán the most outstanding are Areacova, Francón and Menduíña. This last one is the beach that has better access and almost every summer shows off the Blue Flag, that is the seal which guarantees the quality of its waters and services.

O HÍO

It has the privilege of being placed between two estuaries: the Vigo estuary and Aldán estuary, what enables it to boast the best beaches.

In Vigo estuary we find, among others, the Liméns beach and that called Nerga, both large, the nudist ones Barra 1 and Barra 2 (also known as Viñó) and Melide beach between two lighthouses in Cabo Home. Liméns is one of the favourite ones among visitors due to the beauty of its impressive dune fields and its pine forest and because of the quality of its waters, that's the reason why it deserves the Blue Flag award almost every year. The beaches of Barra are not far behind and they are considered as the best nudist ones in Galicia.

The Aldán estuary, on the other hand, provides us a group of wonderful coves as San Xián, Pipín and Castiñeíras, some medium-sized sands as those of Arneles and Pinténs and a long-length beach, but not less beautiful, Areabrava.

Hío possessses a rich natural and historical-cultural legacy. Here you can find the Cruceiro de O Hío, the most well-known historical monument in the parish that is considered one of the jewels of the Galician etnographic heritage. It is placed next to the San Andrés Church and the Rectory House.

In Hío, the visitor will enjoy not only the beaches, but also precious natural sites as the group made up of Cabo Home and the Monte do Facho, both in the little village of Donón. In Cabo Home there is a lookout from which two tracks depart: one towards the lighthouses and the Melide beach and the other that goes up until the Monte do Facho, where one of the most important Roman sanctuaries in the Iberian Peninsula is found, that dedicated to the god Berobreo. From the summit we can contemplate the stunning panoramic views of the estuaries of Vigo, Aldán and Pontevedra and those of Cies and Ons islands. A visit to this place at dusk is a must: the remembrance of its sunsets is unforgettable.
